  • This book was my introduction to buffer overflows and exploits. I still have the coffee-stained copy of the first edition of the book, which remains relevant as a deep introduction to hacking. (Posted on Blog)

Security is a broad, interdisciplinary, applied field. If I’ve learned anything, I’ve learned that there is no single, standard, or best preparatory path. You’ll benefit from having a strong understanding of applied computer science, or how computers and software work. Some of the more useful topics are operating systems, networking, computer architecture, and compilers. The is not an exhaustive list of books, but these three books make a good read for cybersecurity. You can find other cybersecurity reference books here.
